Stanley Kubrick et Beau-Site Haut-Vignoble: une histoire d'amour

It is said that director Stanley Kubrick had a penchant for this wine to the point of making it appear in his film "Clockwork Orange"! During the sequence, where Alex's former victims serve him a meal, they put him on notice to comment on a saint-Estèphe wine: Château Beau-Site Haut Vignoble 1960... Stanley Kubrick, a great fan of the eternal, was a perfectionist: the tasting scene was restarted many times. To avoid the drunkenness of the actor, the level was redone with water! This is how one of the director's favorite red wines was found almost rosé, during the final take.
Owned by the Braquessac family, the vineyards of Château Beau-Site Haut-Vignoble acquired over the generations, extend over an area of 20 hectares. The estate is divided into about twenty plots scattered throughout the town of Saint-Estèphe making it very representative of the appellation.
Three quarters of the plots are located in areas of deep gravel and deserve the term "High Vineyard". The remaining quarter brings a happy complementarity by its clay-limestone soils.
In the blend, Cabernet Sauvignon is the majority (often around 55%) very suitable for gravel terrain, followed by Merlot (40%) which brings flexibility and roundness and a small amount of petit verdot for a complement of perfume and color. The vinification is traditional with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, the extraction by micro pump-overs is done according to the plot potential.
